Vancouver, BC has been home my entire life, but soon it'll be Toronto! Vancouver will always hold a special place in my heart, but as someone who talks a lot about living outside our comfort zones, I’ve realized I’m as comfortable as it gets here. I’m super excited to take my love for health and wellness to a new city and explore all it has to offer!
Right now, you can find me on Instagram (@steviebarkerhealth). Always happy to chat!
For me, on a hot summer day at the beach or after wrapping up a long week of work.
My ideal Saturday? Honestly, it’s been every Saturday since I stopped drinking! I go to the gym around 8:30 am, then have a nice walk home, usually grab a coffee on the way. After a quick clean at my place, I head out for whatever plans I’ve got—maybe a beach day, lunch with friends, creating content, hanging out with my little sister from Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland, or just getting stuff done to set up for a good week ahead. I really just make the most of it.
Don’t be afraid to ask yourself the hard questions—the ones that give you the answers you need to hear, not just the ones you want to hear. I used to lie to myself a lot and ignored obvious signs because I didn’t want to face the truth. When I stopped drinking, I became more clear headed and realized that much of what I needed to change came down to asking myself a few simple questions:
- What’s not working for me?
- What is working for me?
- Out of what’s not working, what’s actually changeable?
- And if something can’t be changed, what can I adjust?
I use this approach for almost everything now—my job, relationships, habits, mindset, and attitude. Sometimes it feels like we’re working against ourselves, but often, it’s just a shift in perspective that can make all the difference!
Right now, I'm really inspired by my approach to fitness. I went through a phase of gym burnout and hit a plateau that lingered longer than it should have. I switched things up by getting back into group classes, and it’s been a game changer! Gym burnout is so SO real, even after more than 4 years of consistent workouts. There are still days, weeks, even months where the momentum just isn’t there. But the key is showing up. Like anything, it’s about keeping it fun, challenging, and rewarding. And when you feel things slowing down, always remember to ask yourself those questions to see what change is needed to get you back on track!
